We share a strong passion with other women for black ankle boots and footwear. However, we like to keep perspective on the reality that many people and children are in need of even one pair of decent shoes. There’s a famous shoe saying:
“A pair of shoes can change your life. Just ask Cinderella.”
There’s a profound amount of truth in that statement for many destitute people in third-world developing countries. A single pair of recycled shoes or sandals can literally make the difference between life and death. Here’s the logic behind that harsh truth.
Of all the neglected diseases in these countries, the most prevalent one with 1.6 billion people at risk is Soil-transmitted helminthes (STH) – or infectious intestinal worms. It can lead to complications such as anemia, stunting, malnutrition, impaired development, and intestinal obstruction. Helminthes is easily spread in areas with poor sanitation conditions because trash and human waste contaminate the soil making it a breeding ground for lethal parasites like this.
More than 60% of the infected by this soil-borne parasites are children. Children are highly exposed to this parasite since many of them spend their entire day walking barefoot on garbage dumps in order to find something to either eat or sell. This doesn’t even consider the problems of risking cuts, abrasions and infections just from being habitually barefoot.
Having access to shoes become an additional lifeline for these impoverished people since they allow extremely poor people to go the extra distance required to find food, or water, or shelter, or medical help.
So, these stark statistics have led us to do our small part and select Soles 4 Souls as our appropriate charity of choice. For each pair of boots or shoes you purchase through our BlackAnkleBoots.org site, a portion of those proceeds will be directed to the Sole4Souls non-profit efforts changing the world one pair at a time. The Black Ankle Boots Foundation is proud to do our part and are very grateful for your support in advancing this noble cause.
